    • Welding loads present quite a challenge to the designer of power factor control systems. This is because of the rapidly fluctuating current taken during the welding process.
    • This problem is addressed in SPEEDVARTM by a two prong approach –a specially designed current sensing relay and a fast discharging arrangement for the capacitor.
    • The current sensing Relay has built in Fuzzy Logic. Fuzzy Logic differs from digital logic in that the prevailing conditions are recognized and the decision is taken not only on these conditions, but the previous history too. This ensures a smoother control, avoiding unnecessary on/off operations, at the same time maintaining the target within close limits.
    • The capacitor used for power factor is specially arranged so that it discharges very quickly and is ready to be switched on again in a moment. This allows SPEEDVARTM to follow the welding cycle property.
    • The power factor is measured instantly by the Syntron Power Meter on the panel. This serves a two fold purpose – it shows the performance of te SPEEDVARTM panel vis a vis the power factor of the total factory. It also serves to indicate any faults or failures within the SPEEDVARTM panel, such as tripping of an MCB or deterioration of capacitor value etc. by interpretation.
    • The operation is very simple. The load current is measured by the SPEEDVARTM Relay, and a contactor is switched on or off depending upon the Fuzzy Logic programmed in the Controller. The contactor is used to switch the capacitor for improving the power factor. A fixed capacitor is used to compensate the inductance of the transformer. Protection is provided by fuses and MCBs.
Specifications :
    Voltage : 240VAC 50Hz for single phase, 415V AC 50Hz for two phase and three phase.
    Load Current : Commensurate with the KVA ration rating of the welding set.
    Input : Terminals are provided to take cable sockets of appropriate size.

    Connections : The SPEEDVARTM panel is connected to the electrical supply point and the welding machine supply is takes from the SPEEDVARTM panel.

Normally available for range of 0 600V AC, the digital voltmeter set point relays are also available for ranges from 0-200mV, 0-200V, direct reading DC or AC. It is designed to accept wide-ranging voltage input from 50V to 600V. Available for the Mains Frequency range of 45.0-55.0Hz, the display is exceptionally steady compared to some other makes of frequency meter that are based on counting circuits. Power Factor Alarm Relay (type MRD-PF)

The instrument is designed for application in manually controlled power factor improvement systems. Microcontroller based, the instrument provides accurate measurement of power factor (cos x) and a display of three-and-a-half digits from 0.000 to 1.000.separate indications by LEDs are provided for lag and lead. Alarm limits are factory programmed. Standard version has lag setting of 0.96 and lead setting of 0.99. Time delays of 10 seconds are programmed into the standard version for lag as well as lead. Two relays are provided inside one one for lag and the other for lead. The lag relay operates when the power factor goes lagging and below the lag setting, for the programmed time. Similarly for the lead relay.
